Would you pay $180 dollars for an American Apparel Pea Coat?

Please tell me no...

Especially not when you can go into about any story at this time of year and find Pea Coats deeply discounted.

Don't get me wrong, I do turn to American Apparel for various items. Deep V's, colorful tights and leggings, and maybe the occasional scarf, but I do often complain about the prices. I hate using this term, but "in this economy" it’s just a little hard for me to throw my money around on things I most likely am going to use just a few times.

This brings me to my next question, is American Apparel losing its luster in the hipster world?

Fashion is fickle, we all know this all too well, but what was once a gold mine for hipster fashion is becoming fairly mainstream. The all too familiar patterns that scream "I'm from American Apparel!" are becoming simply downright annoying to some. The "Afrika" themed collection is a blatant rip-off of M.I.A. (who came out with her own line of clothing). The polo shirts make it alright for the frat boy crowd to shop at a store they would have once stayed away from. There's a reason the fashionable stay fashionable, they refuse to shop at the mundane. They need to have their own secret stores to shop at. They need to have their own little underground of people who recognize where the clothes came from so they can achieve their own level of street-cred, and poor American Apparel is failing to deliver.

I will still purchase my staples from AA, but I don't think I will be turning to them very often for new and exciting items. Everyone and their dog (seriously) will be wearing it too.
